Issue #1 - Members of the U.S. Senate Defy the
Will of the People and Oppose Background Checks

On April 17th, 2013, in defiance of the will of the American people, 45 members of the U.S. Senate voted against sensible gun control legislation. In spite of polls showing that voters overwhelming (91%) favored universal background checks for the purchase of guns, Senators on both sides of the aisle aligned themselves with the powerful gun lobbies and voted "no" thus defeating that bill. This is not the way it is supposed to work. This is not Democracy. This is not over.

We were shocked as we watched Senators lie about the legislation, telling fellow congressman and the world that the proposed bill, S. 649, would infringe on the 2nd Amendment rights of Americans to own guns. That is absolutely false. Those who have read the proposed legislation know without question that those Senators were not truthful. We find it disgusting, not only for them to lie but to do so on the floor of the U.S. Congress. If anyone wants to refute that they lied, read the document first and then explain exactly where you think they did not lie. You too will be shocked. There was nothing in the bill that would infringe on the 2nd Amendment rights of law abiding citizens.

This is not Democracy. This is a sham. Those 45 Senators have violated their oath of office and the trust of the American people. WE WILL NOT FORGET. The government is supposed to be of the people, for the people, and by the people and not of the lobby, for the lobby and by the lobby. Those Senators who voted against this bill, that would have saved thousands of innocent lives, will pay the price the next time they come up for election. They have lost our trust and the right to represent us. If they vote against legislation that has a clear mandate from the people, just what other legislation have they voted for or against that was not in the best interest of their constituency?

This is our country. It does not belong to our elected officials. They work for us and they were elected to reflect our wishes in law making and other matters and if they fail to do what the majority of their constituents want, they should be fired. This is our country. It does not belong to the gun lobby or the banks or the oil companies or any company for that matter. It belongs to us, the people, and if our elected officials forget that, they should be fired. That is what this website is all about. WE WILL NOT FORGET.

A note to Senators who voted "Nay" on S. 649

The NRA represents less than 1.5% of the American population
91% of Americans favor enhanced background checks
75% of gun owners favor enhanced background checks
You may want to revisit your decison to vote "Nay"
You may want to caucus with your fellow Senators who also voted against the bill
It makes a lot of sense to have a unanimous "Yea" vote on any new similar legislation
What can the NRA do if 100 Senators vote "Yea"?
Remember, WE (THE 91%) WILL NOT FORGET

This is the oath of office you took.
Are you living up to it?

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.
